ARTIST OF THE WEEK : NO SERIAL KILLER DEBUTS "I LOVE YOU"

No Serial Killer was formed by A.K.M. in the 1990s. It started as one person wanting to play the piano. Despite no formal musical training, after years of practice in the rehearsal rooms of the University of Nottingham’s music department No Serial Killer began to make amateur recordings of original material. No Serial Killer played a few short gigs as part of a talent show at the University of Central England. He also played in various lecture theatres at the Nottingham Trent University. Students would enter the hall and voice their approval. Sometimes, the classically trained musicians there would imitate the playing as a form of ridicule! No Serial Killer used to play in rehearsal rooms at Central Missouri State University in 1994, he was there as an exchange student. He has always been more of a part-time on and off project. However, with a good selection of tunes No Serial Killer recently decided to write songs and enlisted the help of a professional singer to sing them.

No Serial Killer was influenced by the 1980’s Rock n Roll Era music, TV and video games. Growing up he loved watching “The Incredible Hulk” starring Bill Bixby, The A-Team, Dallas, and many more basically because he loved the characters, humor and action. He wants to make music that is original, simplistic, memorable and of top quality. With music nowadays lacking quality and creativity, where all mainstream acts have the same similar sound, No Serial Killer is here to do something different.

His debut single “I Love You” was mixed by Chris Brown who is a former Abbey Road Studios engineer with 30 years’ experience and over 40 UK chart credits. Chris is a specialist in live band recording and mixing with a wealth of experience recording orchestras and feature-film soundtracks.

One major thing about No Serial Killer is there are only two instruments in this song, the piano and vocals. Most songs have multiple instruments, a guitar or sax solo for example. Whereas his music doesn’t and it still manages to sounds remarkably full and interesting. The piano sounds powerful much like a rhythm guitar. It sounds atmospheric.

Usually in songs, the piano is arranged in a predictable way. But in this song the piano is like a bass and rhythm guitar combined. This is due to being self-taught.

Most important thing is No Serial Killer’s piano sound is unlike anyone else. It is distinct and unique.
